This English version of selected and readapted chapters of the Italian 33th editions of the Dossier Statistico Immigrazione (Statistical Dossier on Immigration), a sociostatistical
yearly report edited by IDOS in collaboration with Confronti Study Center and S. Pio V Institute of Political Studies has been realized thanks to the careful translation of Francesco Masala-Martínez, professor at the Tennessee State University.
Through the analyzes developed by a large plurality of scholars, organizations and disciplinary perspectives, the current edition of the Immigration Statistical Dossier
draws a picture of human mobility in Italy at the beginning of 2023, more than two years from the pandemic and in the midst of a war with global implications, which broke out
at the gates of Europe. The Dossier shows and analyzes the structural characteristics of migratory flows and foreign population in Italy, the processes of immigrants’ integration
and participation in collective life, their contribution in the labor market and the national economy.
The vast range of statistical information, collected from a differentiated series of administrative archives and official sources, is processed and presented in a systematic way, in order to offer the reader an organic and precise knowledge of the phenomenon.
The result is an updated and wide-ranging report on immigration in Italy which, in the hope of the authors, intends to contribute to raising the degree of awareness and knowledge of an epochal and increasingly decisive phenomenon for contemporary societies.
